Downpour engulfed city roads, lightning killed farmer

Barishal weather office sources said due to low created on northern part of Bay of Bengal, the downpour started from 8:10 AM and ended before 10:00 AM Wednesday over southern region including Barishal city.

On Wednesday from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM 97 ML rainfall recorded in the area, said Anisur Rahman, senior observer of Barishal weather office.

Due to this downpour city roads in most of the areas including city center were engulfed causing troubles against movements of vehicular and pedestrians caused by shortage of transports and gusty wind flows.

Low lands and banks of canals, ponds and river also over flowed causing sufferings of the local residents in different areas of the city.

Abul Mannan, 44, a farmer of Char Veduria under Chhobipur union of Muladi upazila, was killed by hit of lighting when he was going to field at about 8:30 AM, said Foyez Ahmed,   officer in charge of Muladi police station under Barishal district.  ##
