Unit-8 of Rapid Action Battalion operating two separate drives recovered 783 bottles Phensidyl , 7,680 pieces of Yaba tablets and 91 Kg. hemp from Rupatali area of the city and Guthia area under Wazirpur police station of Barishal district on Wednesday.
Three drug peddlers including a woman were arrested in this connection.
RAB-8 holding a press briefing at its headquarter in Rupatali area of the city on Wednesday afternoon revealed the facts.
The arrested drug peddlers were identified as Sirajul Islam Fakir, 48, son of late Khadem Ali Fakir of Changuria in Wazirpur upazila and Liton Howladar, 42, son of Motaleb Howladar, of Halta village under Bakerganj upazila of Barishal district.
The other arrestee was Fatima Akter, 35, wife of Humayun Kabir, of West Dahorpara under Wazirpur upazila of Barishal district, confirmed Major Jahangir Hossain, deputy commander of RAB-8.
RAB-8 sources said after checking a pickup at Rupatali Golchattar area RAB team recovered 783 bottle Phensedyl with Tk. 9700 cash at 7.30 AM Wednesday and arrested Sirajul Islam Fakir and Liton Howladar, two drug peddlers.
Another drive was operated on basis of tipped-off at residence of Humayun Kabir at west Daharpara under Wazirpur upazila at 9.30 AM of the same day.
From there RAB-8 team recovered 91kg hemp and 7, 680 Yaba tablets from under ground of that house.
Humayun Kabir managed to flee way becoming aware about presence of the law enforcers. But his wife Fatima Aktar. RAB still trying to arrest Humayun, said Major Jahangir.
RAB will hand over the arrestees to police after interrogation about the source of collecting the drugs and narcotics and information about the supply channels.
Filling of two separate cases in connection of these drives with Barishal Kotwali Police and Wazirpur Police station were underway till this report, RAB-8 sources added. ##
